Welcome to the National Equine Welfare Council (NEWC). 

Since its formation in 1977, the National Equine Welfare Council C.I.C. has grown from a small forum of like-minded charities into a nationally respected member body that unifies the UK equine welfare sector. Our vision is simple: Equines have improved welfare and a good life due to our members speaking with one voice.

We believe that all equines should experience a good life — one where their species-specific needs are met and their lifetime experiences, particularly those involving humans, are predominantly positive.

Organisations that join NEWC demonstrate a clear, credible commitment to improving equine welfare in the UK. Through ongoing accreditation, members and associates show that equine welfare is at the heart of everything they do.

With a network of almost 90 member organisations — from small rescue charities to major equestrian and veterinary bodies — we work together to promote evidence-based practice, share expertise, and strengthen equine welfare nationwide.
