NEWC is the umbrella organisation for equine welfare charities, education providers, veterinary bodies and other organisations committed to promoting high standards of equine welfare across the UK.

Founded in 1977 and incorporated as a Community Interest Company in 2014, NEWC is governed by an elected Board of Directors in accordance with its Articles of Association and Regulations. These documents set out the rules for how NEWC operates, ensuring transparency, accountability, and sector-wide representation.

Our aim is to improve equine welfare, support those working to raise welfare standards, and share best practice with our members, associates and the wider equine community.

We remain committed to ensuring that key resources, including the Codes of Practice for the Welfare of Equidae, stay accessible, evidence-based and reflective of the latest scientific understanding of equine wellbeing.
