Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Groom to join our Equine Care team. Working within a multidisciplinary, vet-led environment, you will help deliver outstanding care and welfare to our resident equines while leading and supporting a small team of grooms.

You will play a key role in coordinating daily care, feeding, medication and treatments, ensuring high standards of welfare, handling and stable management.

This role combines hands-on horse care with team leadership responsibilities, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both working directly with horses and developing those around them.

Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Groom, you will:
• Deputise for and support the Head Groom in the day-to-day running of the yard.
• Lead, motivate, supervise and provide guidance to a team of grooms.
• Deliver training and coaching to support the development of the grooming team.
• Ensure resident equines receive the correct daily feeds, supplements, medications and treatments.
• Administer medications authorised by the Veterinary Director.
• Oversee the routine administration of treatments and daily care procedures.
• Work closely with veterinary and equine care colleagues to deliver coordinated, individualised care plans.
• Assist with the care of welfare cases, isolation horses and admissions into The Horse Trust's care.
• Support field movements and transportation of resident equines, following appropriate training and assessment.
• Monitor feed and supplement stock levels and ensure feed storage areas remain clean, safe and well organised.
• Provide regular performance feedback, supervision and appraisals for members of your team.
• Support consistency of horse handling and care through effective communication with the Training Groom and wider equine care team.
• Provide cover for the Veterinary Care Assistant when required.

What We're Looking For The successful candidate will be:
• An experienced groom with excellent horse care knowledge and practical handling skills.
• Confident supervising and supporting other team members.
• Able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and welfare-focused environment.
• Organised, proactive and able to prioritise tasks in a busy yard setting.
• Committed to maintaining the highest standards of equine welfare and health.
• A strong communicator with the ability to build positive working relationships across teams.
• Willing to undertake ongoing training and professional development.
