Congratulations, you have decided to adopt from a rescue organisation and give a horse or pony a second chance! Please have a look on find a pet to see horses currently available for adoption and fostering.

All horses and ponies that are currently available are advertised on our website. Sometimes we have a few more horses that will be available soon that are not yet advertised; please fill out the online application and our dedicated team will contact you to see if they can help match you up with a suitable horse.

Our companions are advertised as non-ridden for either medical, size or past history reasons but are still looking for that loving home to call their own.

Youngsters are promoted through our foster scheme until we can find their permanent perfect match.

Fostering criteria for horses and ponies

  • You are a horse owner or have experience of owning equines.
  • You are willing to either foster a horse or pony as companionship for your own equine or willing to foster two of them as company for each other.
  • You have the time, means and facilities to care for equines, including grazing.
  • You are prepared to foster a horse or pony for a minimum of six months until we can find a permanent home.
  • You will have the opportunity to adopt the horse should you wish to do so.
  • As an equine fosterer, you are responsible for day-to-day expenses, routine worming, and all farrier costs.
  • Veterinary costs are covered by the RSPCA but you must receive our consent before any treatment is given, except in an emergency where the equine is given first aid.
  • Other important information: Prior to fostering, all equines are screened for strangles on entry to RSPCA care, they have a full worming history from the RSPCA and are vaccinated against flu and tetanus. Every equine is passported and microchipped; colts are also gelded. Horses being fostered are covered by the RSPCA for 3rd party insurance.

The RSPCA matches horses to permanent adoption homes. We start on a 6 month probation loan period, which means we check in to see how they’re doing from time to time so we can make sure that they – and you – are happy. If all is well, at the end of this period we transfer permanent ownership to the adopter enabling us to help more horses in need.
