Parsley & Sage (donkeys)

Info

Age: 14 & 9
Sex: Gelding & Mare
Height: 11
Organisation: The Donkey Sanctuary

Parsley and Sage came into the care of The Donkey Sanctuary as part of a welfare investigation with two other donkeys. They all had overgrown hooves and were being kept in a field which was unsuitable and contained a lot of Ragwort. Parsley was also underweight and had some skin problems.

In our care they have become more confident with Sage being the first to approach any new person or situation, she enjoys attention and playing with Parsley. Parsley is a little more reserved, he will stay in the background initially but once he gets to know you, he will relax in your company. He is a calm and gentle donkey.

Parsley and Sage do have some health and veterinary needs that a new guardian will need to be committed to managing.  Parsley has previously had laminitis and will require careful management.  Sage has a propensity to gain weight so good dietary and environment management is needed.

Sage and Parsley are now ready to join a new home.  We feel they will benefit from being in a home environment and their confidence will grow with 1-1 care. Due to their previous neglect, they do have further care requirements, including 6 monthly dental care.  We can discuss their needs, and how we can support with these, with prospective homes.

We have a team of regionally based Donkey Welfare Advisers and a range of experts who will support new guardians throughout their journey.

If you feel like you could offer a home to Sage and Parsley but want to find out more information before applying, please contact our welfare office on 01395 578222.  When applying please refer to PAR&SAG in your application form.
