Lewis

Lewis is a sweet little Dartmoor pony with a kind nature and a real willingness to please. He thrives in a calm, consistent home where routines stay the same and he can build strong bonds with his carers and herd mates. Despite this liking for stability, Lewis is polite and well-mannered to handle with both staff and volunteers here, he has also shown a lovely nature during our open days and events - being inquisitive and friendly. He is good to groom, lead, pick out feet, bath, clip, feed and train, and as a young pony he genuinely enjoys learning new things.

Lewis can occasionally be cheeky to catch if he’s feeling playful, and he really enjoys having friends his own age to interact with. Although only around 10hh, he happily keeps up with his field companions and loves a good play with other young geldings. He would suit a home that enjoys bringing on young ponies and continuing his education in a calm, structured way.

Routine:

Lewis benefits from consistency and does best with a settled routine and familiar handlers. He enjoys turnout with friends and a steady environment.

Friends:

Lewis is good with mares, youngsters and geldings. Lewis particularly enjoys the company of other young geldings and would benefit from a playful companion in his new home. Lewis is good to be stabled on his own, and can be left for short periods of time on his own once settled.

Feeding Requirements:

Lewis will need careful weight management due to a previous laminitis episode. He requires a knowledgeable home that understands correct management strategies including: restricted grazing, farriery,  forage management and ongoing monitoring.

Medical/Vet:

Lewis is good for the vet and other professionals. He is up to date with vaccinations including Flu, Tetanus and Strangles.

Farrier:

Lewis is good for the farrier and trims as required.

Dentist:

Lewis has an annual dental check.

Vices:

None known.
