BEVA launches new Coping with Confinement Toolkit

NEWC member, the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA), has launched a new Coping with Confinement Toolkit, supporting equine veterinary professionals in managing the behavioural and welfare challenges associated with periods of confinement.

Periods of confinement, including box rest, restricted grazing, treatment and rehabilitation, can present challenges for both equines and the people caring for them. BEVA’s new toolkit provides evidence-based guidance to help veterinary professionals develop individualised confinement plans that consider the equine’s clinical and behavioural needs, alongside the practical circumstances of their care.

The resource also recognises the importance of supporting owners and carers, with a dedicated Owner’s Guide providing practical information to help them manage periods of confinement and support their animal’s welfare.

Considering behavioural needs alongside physical recovery can be an important part of supporting equines through what can be a challenging period.

The Coping with Confinement Toolkit and Owner’s Guide are available on the BEVA website:

NEWC is pleased to highlight this useful resource from BEVA and congratulates everyone involved in its development.
