Job Description:

We are looking for a positive, highly motivated individual who has a wide range of experience handling/training horses, is open to new ideas and wants to continually develop their knowledge to join us.

For over 135 years The Horse Trust has specialised in providing retirement and respite for working horses and ponies. These hard-working equine public servants have served our nation in the Police, the Army or with charities which use horses to help people. We also provide sanctuary to horses, ponies and donkeys who have suffered from cruelty or neglect and who are in desperate need of specialist treatment and care.

Our Knowledge and Skills team provide high quality, evidence-based training to our internal team members, external professionals, and our resident horses. This is a great opportunity to join a highly motivated team, in a role that will allow the right candidate to be involved in a wide range of activities depending on their background and experience.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate practical competence and experience in handling and training a variety of horses in different settings. Ideally, you will have knowledge of horse’s ethological needs and knowledge of horse behaviour and body language. You must be willing to work outside in all weather and should be able to use basic Microsoft office applications. You should be able to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills, be a team player and want to continually develop your own knowledge and skills.

You will have the chance to work alongside our internal and external experts to learn more about horse behaviour and create a positive learning environment for horses during training. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in training emergency responders, external professionals, and our internal team through both face-to-face training and via the creation and administration of courses on an online training platform.
