Patrick and Penelope are two young mules who are looking for a special Guardian so they can join our Rehoming Scheme. Patrick and Penelope came into the care of The Donkey Sanctuary having experienced very little of the world. Over the past year the pair have benefitted from living as part of a home environment where they have developed trust in their handlers, thanks to calm, consistent and compassionate handling. Patrick and Penelope are able to be fitted with headcollars, groomed and lead by their familiar handler. Both have taken part various agility exercises, and building their confidence around novel objects such as poles, cones, walking through an arch, and over different surfaces.
Patrick and Penelope will benefit from a home which has experience with donkeys or horses and ideally some experience with mules. To build a strong and trusting bond with their new handlers, they will require a quiet, patient home willing to invest a significant amount of time continuing their training. The home will require suitable facilities for managing them without hands-on handling in the initial stages of settling in. Patrick and Penelope will also require a sympathetic vet and farrier who are willing to work quietly alongside the home to provide positive handling experiences during routine treatments. The Donkey Sanctuary behaviour team will continue to provide ongoing support with their training and behaviour to help ensure their success in a new home.
